Today is Memorial Day; a day which has a mix of celebration, mourning and hope. On one hand it is the unofficial start to summer and the amount of tourists in town show that to be true. But, in the midst of all the hot dogs and trips to the beach there is a piece that we must never forget. There are people who have served our country and having given more than most of us ever will. This is honorable and worth our respect.
I also am mindful of an even greater person who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This person gave it all and yet we are not able to memorialize him at a graveside like we can with many others. This person is Jesus Christ. He died in our place to forgive our sins. He rose again to free us forever from it.
Let us not forget that Memorial Day is more than simply a long weekend. It is a change to stop, celebrate and remember.
